About Us

Established in 2007 by Skye Blackburn- entomologist, food scientist, and proud bug nerd- Edible Bug Shop was Australia’s first insect protein farm specialising in human consumption and is now a world leader in edible insect farming and food innovation.
As Australia’s largest and most advanced insect protein facility, Skye and her team have spent nearly two decades pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with insects. From developing cutting-edge robotics and artificial intelligence to streamline farming, to transforming insects into powders, oils, pastes and even a creamy insect “mylk,” Edible Bug Shop has been at the forefront of the alternative protein movement since the very beginning.
Back when food science and entomology seemed like an odd pairing, Skye saw opportunity. By combining her expertise in both fields, she has created a range of insect protein products that are not only safe and nutritious, but genuinely delicious—designed specifically for Western diets and everyday eating.
Education has always been at the heart of Skye’s work. She has spent years helping people get over the initial “yuck” factor through hands-on school programs, workshops, cooking demonstrations, media appearances, public talks and collaborations with chefs, museums and educators. Her approach is practical, playful and science-based—showing people that insects aren’t just survival food for the bush, but a smart, sustainable and tasty protein for the future.
Skye believes that when people understand how edible insects are farmed, prepared and enjoyed, many of the myths disappear. When done right, insects are good for you, good for the planet, and surprisingly delicious.
In 2020, Edible Bug Shop rebranded its retail range as Circle Harvest, making it even easier for families to include nutrient-dense insect protein in familiar, everyday foods, no crunching required (unless you want to).
